We made it! It was a long flight but leaving at 11pm made it easy to sleep for most of it. The Rome Airport was a little crazy but once we went through customs and arrived to our transfer bus it was all good! We were picked up by the transfer company for Crystal Cruises. They were well dressed and visible with signs (which was great because we might have missed them we were so tired!). They directed us to our shuttle bus and we were on our way in no time to Civitavecchia. Civitavecchia is only 90 minutes from Rome. It is a major cruise and ferry port and was founded by Emperor Trajan in the 2nd century. Today this port is noted for its fine seafood and attractive monuments. The city has a bustling historic downtown core, is near some nice beaches and has a handful of attractions that are well worth seeing. One of them – Towering over the port itself, is Fort Michelangelo. It is hard to miss and is one of Civitavecchia’s most important monuments. The fort was completed in 1535 under Pope Paul III, who had Michelangelo design and build the tower. The fort was an important defensive outpost for Rome and is actually built over an ancient Roman fortress, part of which has been excavated
and can be visited. Our shuttle took us right to the port and there She was in all her glory – the Crystal Symphony! Not a big ship but boy is she a beauty! We were quickly checked in and assisted to our cabin. Once we opened the door our jaws dropped!! What a beautiful Stateroom! Double sinks in the bathroom, a shower, a bathtub – definitely a good size! As we looked further we saw our beautiful sitting area and our two twin beds done up with gorgeous bedding! Then we saw it – OMG the
